Vinyl

Substance X1

Sticks to almost anything.

← Materials

This stuff is thick, near the top of anything you'll find in print vinyl. Substance markets it as good for low-energy plastics, and we're here to confirm: they're not lying. It's got real tack to it while still being sort of repositionable, which is a neat trick for a vinyl this aggressive. The practical upshot is that it'll stick to stuff that laughs at regular vinyl.

Good to know

The spec sheet version, and what it actually means once it's stuck to something that fights back.

Where we use it

This is what Stubborn Stickers run on.

Reach for this one when the surface is the problem, not the sticker.

Thickness

6 mil — the thickest print media in our lineup.

Enough body to bridge texture that would show through anything thinner, and enough opacity that the surface underneath — bare metal, dark plastic, whatever — doesn't show through the sticker material.

The adhesive

Ultra-aggressive acrylic adhesive, built for low-surface-energy plastics that shrug off regular vinyl.

More than double the grip of a typical high-tack adhesive on things like coolers, bins, and bare plastic. Substance originally comes from the motorsport world — this is the go-to stuff for motorcycle fenders and race car plastics.

Repositioning

You get a short window to shift it before it sets, then it's committed.

Enough slide to line it up straight. Not enough to walk away and come back to it later.

Going on

FLO tech means it lays down without trapping air, even on lightly textured plastic.

Fewer bubbles at install, even though the adhesive underneath is aggressive enough to make most films bubble like crazy.

Where it's from

Built for motocross graphics that have to survive mud, pressure washers, and freeway-speed vibration.

If it can hang onto a dirt bike fender, it's not going anywhere on your laptop or cooler.

There's also Ultracurve X2. We'll be straight with you: it'll stick to just about anything you put in front of it. We just don't carry it by default — it's a nightmare to work with, and repositioning isn't a thing. Once it's down, it's down, no matter how much you sweet-talk the stuff.
